Design Of The Landscape Node Of Urban Overpasses

As the acceleration of the urban trend becomes the hot issue nowadays, the cities, which bear the high centralization of the population, material, information and the culture ecology, have showed both advantages and disadvantages in the humans' life. In the cities, the nodes in roads always play a significant role. Besides the function to assure the smooth traffic, overpasses, as three-dimensional new road nodes, have vital meanings as nodes in the urban landscape system. This thesis would start with the urban image level and based on the public urban space landscape system, go deep in by a sequence as roads, nodes and the overpasses, in order to analyze and discuss the history, types, landscape characters and elements in the landscape design of the overpasses. Through the materials from reading and on-the-spot investigations, the differences would be compared between the south and the north cities and emphasize on the situation in Chengdu city.This thesis analyzes the general characters of the urban overpass landscape nodes, such as: vitality, perceivability, aptness, accessibility, control, efficiency and equity. According to these we discuss some design ideas like strengthening the site characteristics and space structure, consolidating the form and the content, the distinguishability of the signals and the spare space for the future. Then we discuss some methods to design overpass node landscape such as the plastic art of the overpasses, virescence, sculptures and other details, light, viewpoints disposal and the visual space sequence and so on.
