With the sustained development of the national economy and the continuously rising demand on environment protection, the design of the chimney tends to be of diversity. Both the height and the shape are sustained increasing, which makes even higher demand on the respect of designs. Moreover, the new Code for design of chimney GB50051-2001 is to be issued. All these result in that the current designing software on chimneys can not meet the new market demand any more. Therefore, PKPM department of China Academy of Building Research (CABR) put forward the project of developing CAD software on chimneys. In the thesis, the approach to design reinforced concrete chimney and the theory of software developing is introduced then an example is given. In accordance with the new Code for design of chimney and other correlative revised codes, the software adopts Visual C++ as well as Visual Fortran as the developing tools, at the same time it adopts the technique of writing programs with mix-languages. Due to these, it can be easily operated and the interface is much more friendly. This software achieves calculating additional bending moment and design for normal section in ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state; at the same time it achieves the function of auto-relays on the basic calculation, which not only guarantees the automatic calculation on the internal force according to the shaft of the chimney and the conduction of basic designs according to the root size. It can calculate foundation bearing capacity, weak underlying stratum, foundation settlement and inclination and so on.In the respect of dealing with pictures, this software, basing on the CFG picture warehouse of PKPM Department of CABR, achieves the function of automatically forming the shop drawing. By means of the case examination, this CAD system does have a large number of advantages. For instance, the interface is friendly as well as flexible; calculation is accurate as well as reliable; shop drawing is rapid as well as precise, and so forth, which is possible to provide assistance for the chimney design in the future.
