Foundation bearing capacity as one of the three classic problems in geotechnicalengineering field has important significance. The main methods to calculate bearingcapacity of foundation are limit equilibrium method, limit analysis method, slip linemethod, numerical analysis method and test method. These methods have differentadvantages and disadvantages and do not form a complete and theoretical system.Especially for reinforced foundation and circular foundation, the research is relative less.Therefore, the studies on strip reinforced foundation and circular foundation werecarried out in this paper.Soil active or passive critical slip field is the application and promotion of critical slipfield method in the bearing capacity calculation of foundation and a lot of valuableachievements have been obtained. As the basic theory, it is used to calculate the bearingcapacities of strip reinforced foundation and circular non-reinforced foundation. In thispaper, it was assumed load acting on the foundation is center and vertical and thatbasement and ground is level.(1) In the research on strip reinforced foundation,it be translated to non-reinforcedfoundation by simplifying the interaction between reinforcement and soil as uniformshear stress acting on soil in the research on strip reinforced foundation. The uniformshear stress should parallel to the reinforcement-soil interface and be opposite to thesliding direction. The bearing capacities were calculated by program and thecomparisions with text results represent the reliability. Factors such as numbers ofreinforcement layers, distance and length of reinforcement were also studied(2) In the research on circular foundation, the slipping soil represents spatial effectand the slip surface is axisymmetric if soil is homogeneous. According to axialsymmetry, the space problem can be simplified as plane problem. The bearing capacitieswere also calculated by program and the comparisions with text results represent thereliability. Three bearing capacity factors were calculated and the values were comparedwith others and effect of active and at-rest soil pressure on N′γand N′qwas represented.The method is easy to understand and program. It is the promotion of critical slipfield method in the calculation of bearing capacity and provides a new idea to calculatethe bearing capacities of strip reinforced footing and circular non-reinforced footing.
