Concrete-filled rectangular tubular (CFRT) structure is seldom used in China atpresent, just because of the less of corresponding codes and regulations, and the less ofrelated theories. It is very difficult to popularize this kind of structure recently.Concrete-filled rectangular tubular structure has a high strength, light weight, goodductility, plasticity, anti-earthquake, and so on. While concrete-filled circular tubularstructure takes on a lot of inconvenience in engineering design, construction andapplication because of it's particular section. So CFRT structure becomes therepresentation of multi-story steel-frame structures. In the first part of this paper, I make a whole static analysis of CFRT and deduce aset of equations for calculating CFRT bearing capacities by using numerical analysisand experimental fitted regression or by using theories of composite section. Then withthe reference to foreign codes, a simplified calculation formula of CFRT is made. Research of earthquake resistant capacity of CFRT frame by theory andexperiment is also made in this paper. After a frame test under static low-cyclereciprocal loading, it can be concluded that CFRT frame has good ductility to resistearthquake. Connections with inner diaphragm satisfies earthquake resistant designstandard of 'strong column, weak beam; strong connection, weak member bar'. At last, using the software of steel structure (STS), I compares the costs of fourstructural systems: rectangular tubular frame and CFRT frame and concludes thatCFRT frame's cost is the lowest. All these results can be made as references forpractical projects.
