Large power plants, as lifeline engineering, take a prominent role in national economic development.Power plant structures have very strong professional characteristics because of its craft reasons, for example, the plane stiffness and vertical stiffness are not uniform, strong beam and weak column structures are often used, different types of members are used together, and the vibration problems are very serious, etc. All of this make the inspecting and appraising and strengthening of power plant structures have special characteristics, such as, there have no appropriate codes or standards to be used, the particularities of power plant structures and the special requirements of power industry must be thought about. The paper describes comprehensively the inspecting and appraising and strengthening of power plant structures based on the No.1 set of Yao Meng power plant, Ping Ding Shan, He Nan. The paper detailed analyses the present strengthening methods according to the characteristics of power plant structures, and provides strengthening methods adapting to power plant structures according to the testing results of strengthening joints packed steel outside, and that of long column and short column, similarity, the difficulties calculating the column of boiler are analysed, and the solutions are provided. Except that, the material requirements and the problems that must be attentioned when using glue steel strengthening and the joints strengthening are also discussed. The paper may provide some basic reference materials for the laying out of the inspecting and appraising and strengthening technical code or standards adapting to power plant structures.
