Cascade hydropower stations are dotted all over our country. The constructions of computer monitoring systems have been developed widely, which guarantees the power stations running safely and economically to a great extent and lays foundations for integrated substation automation. However, presently, the problems of data exchanging between dispatching center and substations have not been coped with adequately, which has hampered making unmanned substations a reality. Owing to the heterogeneity existing in many aspects of monitoring systems such as hardware platforms operating systems, databases and programming languages etc, data exchanging among different systems is very difficult. Therefore, it will play an important role to take effective measures to deal with the problems mentioned above. This thesis illustrates advanced technologies that have recently been used at home and overseas to cope with the data communicating problems in distributed heterogeneous systems, and puts forward a solution, i.e. J2EE/CORBA-based multi-tiered distributed systems. According to the context of Cascade hydropower stations, the system model is set up by UML language and the implementation of the system is presented as well.In this scheme, by using CORBA middleware to solve communication problem in heterogeneous systems, adopting a component-based multi-tiered model, and taking the advantage of Java, the system has many advantages such as platform independence scalability, reusability and maintainability.
