The relationship between urban building and urban environment is always an important topic in urban design. How the atrium in commercial building face to the integrated urban environment does is a hot spot in development of commercial building. So, architectural design is been required to make a breakthrough of the concept, which atrium is only been regarded as interior space in commercial building, and atrium should embody the urban-meaning both on form and connotation. Now, the commercial centre of the most city in our country have many universal problem, such as traffic crowded, shortage of environmental capacity and undesirability of shopping environment, if these problems can not be attached importance in urban commercial building construction and rebuilding, they will become acute on tendency. To study on the urban-meaning of atrium in commercial building will promote healthy development of urban design and urban environment. It is also beneficial to systematic develop commercial building and reduce construction blindness, therefore the papers has important actual life.The article takes the urban-meaning of atrium in commercial building as starting point, and begins with analyses of atrium which is the cream of interior space in commercial building; stress the discussion on space and reform which have the urban-meaning. The article not only pays attention to theory research, but also to analyze cases. On the base of these studies, author bring forward the research achievements, which is the urban-meaning of atrium in commercial building on four aspect of convergency, flow, continuity, open, and parse particular embodiment of the meaning on lay of urban design.
