Selectivity And Creation--The Idea Of Urban Planning For The Master Planning In Mountainous Region

Selectivity is the common character in cities, and creation is the individuality for the urban development. Urban planning is the fundamental way to improve the environment and the image of modern city. At present in China, there are gaps between the master planning and the detail planning during the space figuration process of urban design. Therefore, in order to make up these shortcomings on the neglecting of urban morphology, it is important to implement new ideas in the process of urban planning, thus it will benefit a lot of cities. This is also an urgently need especially for the urban planning in the mountainous region, when these regions in our country is encounter rapidly development. While in the southwest of China, there are a lot of urban planning projects that need new ideas and new methodology to direct the urban design. These new ideas and new methodology will improve the quality of urban development in those regions.This dissertation has surveyed the history and the ideas of modern urban planning. By referent those excellent urban planning projects and paradigms, the author defines the research framework, which thoroughly analyze the key factor and the methodologies of urban planning. Based on the study of all aspects of different angles and different status in urban design, this paper aims to create new idea and new methodology to ensure the new image of modern cities. As an example, this paper has applied the urban planning concepts to the master planning of the project of Qijiang city and the project of Wulong, which exemplify the urban planning projects in the mountainous region. The outline of this dissertation is as follows:CAPTER 1: In this chapter, the author has introduced the research background of this thesis. Then it presents the aims and the importance of this research.CAPTER 2: From social and cultural point of views, this paper has analyzed the influences of western and eastern cultures on the macro thoughts of urban planning. It also brings up some new ideas and general conclusions when considering the recent situations in China.CAPTER 3: In this chapter, the author has thoroughly analyzed the six key factors for the master urban planning of mountainous region, which include: the nature of the urban landscape, the transportation system, the layout of land use, the city center, the public spaces, the boundary line design, etc. CAPTER 4: This chapter has brought forward some new concepts of master urban planning for the mountainous region. Through the concept of selectivity and creation, the author has discussed the new ideas and the new methodologies about the creation of city value, the configuration of urban space, the relationship between the function and the structures, the style and the essence, the traditional heritages and the urban renewal, the continuities between the master planning and the detail design, etc. CAPTER 5: This chapter has taken the Qijiang city project and the Wulong city project as examples, to exemplify how to apply these new thoughts and new methods for the master planning of the mountain city. The author believes that the spirit to pursuit more complement is the highest goal of urban planning.
