Landscape ecology is an inter-subject synthesized from ecology, geography and literae humaniores. It's a new concept frame of ecology and a body of holistic ideas. Landscape ecology studies mainly the spatial pattern, function and dynamic evolution of landscape. It emphasizes the maintenance and development of landscape heterogeneity and the importance of the space-time scale. For the construction of urban landscape and the optimization of the land use, this dissertation discusses the spatial pattern of landscape ecology and its dynamic evolution of the main areas of Zhanjiang city. Based on the source of Remote Sensing (RS) images in 1986 and 2000, the dissertation presents such characteristics as quantities, perimeters, areas etc. of the patches, by using the function of dealing with images and data of Geographic Information System (GIS) to produce the patches of landscape types. And then, the present situation and temporal and spatial patterns of urban landscape ecology are elaborated by calculating and analyzing landscape indexes. The result shows that the area proportions of habitat landscape, industrial landscape, green-land landscape and water area landscape are 29.57%, 15.423%, 14.501% and 5.98% respectively in 2000. The number of landscape patch and diversity index of habitation is the highest and the fragmentation index of green-land landscape is the lowest in all landscape types. The landscape diversity index, dominance index, patch average area and patchiness have changed respectively from 1.72 to 1.886, 0.139 to 0.359, 3.220 to 3.103 and from 27.361 to 26.878 in different time from 1986 to 2000, which shows that the degree of landscape fragmentation has increased. Such increase reflects severe interference of humankind. The result also shows that the spatial pattern of urban landscape has many problems such as unreasonable distribution, single configuration, reduced connectedness, increased fragmentation, decreased types of natural landscape and increased loss of soil and water. The author thinks that the driving forces for the change of the spatial pattern of urban landscape are the development of economy and technology, the expansion of population, the faultiness of policy and system etc. Finally, this dissertation puts forward the countermeasures and measurements for optimizing the landscape ecology spatial pattern.
