GPS control survey, digital photogrammetry, remote sensing geology and CAD are the new technologies used for highway planning, survey and design, both at home and abroad. GPS. as a mature technology for its static and accurate positioning, is widely used in the fields of geoscience study, geoid survey and other survey applications, which has brought about a new revolution for the methods and ways of survey. The digital photogrammetry can effectively reduce the work of the field survey and alleviate the labor intensity. Its output results, such as digital ground model and digital products, can be widely used for engineering construction; the outlook of its application has a bright future. The remote sensing geological technology can macroscopically provide the accurate and reliable engineering geology data for highway planning and design. CAD. as an effective way greatly increasing the design efficiency, is widely used and will be developed to be visible, dynamic and three-dimensional.In China, the study of those above-mentioned technologies has been carried out for many years and some achievements have been achieved. Those achievements are widely used in highway survey and design. However, the study and application of each of those technologies is individually carried out. and not be efficiently integrated. In aspect of the properties, each technology forms its own system and lacks of effective support each other. Therefore, the potential and general advantages of those technologies are still not made mil use of. In the face of information flow, each technology forms an isolated information island for lack of an effective data share, so it cannot satisfy the requirement of the information tendency and the network coordinated work.According to the present situation of the study for new technology for highway survey and design in China, this paper presents the common use of digital interface which is formed by the engineering data base technology, data base engine and Intranet network technology. Through this interface, the information collected by the single technology and the middle results and final achievements produced by these single technologies will be provided for the other technologies for share and reference. The data and models required for the process of using each single technology will be quickly provided to form an integrated technology for highway planning, survey and design. Thus, the two-dimensional design will be upgraded into the three-dimensional design, and the static design will be upgraded into optimized and dynamic design. Finally, the dummy landscape real time roaming will be completed to achieve fast and convenient design, available and reliable plan comparison and selection, objective view for design check and approval. This paper is carried out aiming at the engineering objects. It studies, abstracts and improves the relationship between the new technologies and the highway survey and design. It has used the engineering database and network technology in highway survey and design and has realized the integration of GPS, aerial survey and remote sensing, CAD technologies for field survey, data processing and CAD in office. The integrated technologies have achieved some achievements as follows:â–  The selection of the common open developing environment and application platform makes the system have a wider applicability.â–  Each single technology realizes seamless data transit and share.â–  The object-oriented technology is adopted for designing the effective engineeringdata base, totally managing all types of survey and design data.â–  The common open interface is designed for being compatible and accepting the existing each single result.â–  The module system integration is realized.â–  The multi-model superposition of ground surface model and highway & bridge design models are realized.â–  The dummy landscape real time roaming is realized and the design effect can be objectively evaluated.
