Compared with the nuclear-powered submarine, conventional submarine has standout merits of simple structure, lower expenditure of manufacture and maintenance. But some fatal failings such as high exposure probability and low durability also exist. AIP (Air Independent Propulsion System) system provides effective solutions for power system of conventional submarine. CCD (Closed Cycle Diesel Engine System) is one of these solutions with merits of low exploiture period, high reliability and well-developed technique of diesel engine, etc, and easy to implement. According to the situation of our country, it's military significant to study on closed cycle diesel engine through principle and experiment for improving the equipment level of our navy.According to the working principle of closed cycle diesel engine, the whole solution including charge intake system, seawater management system and monitoring system was put forward in this paper. Test-bed of closed cycle diesel engine was established based on a conventional diesel engine with its type 4102BG. A monitor software with friendly user interface was developed with LabWindows/CVI ?a kind of virtual instrument develop platform. Many functions such as real-time data sampling, processing, displaying and data saving were implemented in it. A PID controller based on artificial neural network was designed to control the flow-rate of oxygen and the recycled exhaust gas. Good control effects were obtained through simulation?Experiments were processed when the diesel ran in both open and close modes. Some thermodynamic parameters were obtained and this CCD system was proved to be feasible.
