As a new technology of products design, Virtual Prototype is a revolution to traditional method of products design. Based on Virtual Prototype, engineers can find underlying problems just during products design by simulating the mechanical system, and revise them quickly so as to throw off the Physical Prototype, which not only can save the cost of design and manufacturing and reduce the cycle of products development, but also can elevate products' performance and enhance products' competition. This article uses advanced CAD/CAE software --- UG, ADAMS and ANSYS to buildthe integrated system platform based on theory of Dynamics of Multibody System for the purpose of resolving the engineering problems of General Retarder design, and analyses the performance of XW-8175-11 Planet-Cycloid Retarder. This article studies the following aspects: 1, Using thegeneral Mechanical System Simulation software---ADAMS to build the Virtual Prototype ofPlanet-Cycloid Retarder, performing kinematic and dynamic simulation, analyzing the transmission ratio, transmission error and intervention of the mechanism , and outpurting load ofthe key pan. 2, Using the advanced Finite Element Analysis software---ANSYS to build theFEA model of the total mechanism, building flexible model of the key part by ANSYS and ADAMS, and analyzing the stress and strain of them. 3, Probing into the interface of ADAMS and ANSYS. and realizing the meaningful Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) under the integrated environment of UG-ADAMS-ANSYS software. The method of Virtual Prototype Building and Finite Element Analysis is theoretically meaning and practically valuable for design and performance simulation of complex mechanical system.
