The electrorheological(ER) technology is an advanced study with so many superior advantages and applications that it has been given much attention all over the world. The core of ER technology is ER fluid which viscous co-efficient changes rapidly, continuously and reversible under electronic field. Vehicle damper using ER Fluid can produce continuous and controllable damping forces for vehicle's best ride comfort and road holding, so many scientist focus on it. Today's researches are on control features on condition that vehicle's passive damper is replaced by ER damper operated by external energy source. This paper presents an energy regenerative ER damper which gets energy from vehicle vibration to damp it. This research work gives a new application field for ER fluid. The main tasks are described as follows:1. Research on ER fluidThe mechanism and variety of ER fluid are introduced in detail; the function of various components and its effect are analyzed; all kinds of factors are discussed; the performance offeree is studied in the opinion of engineering; At last, we produce a new ER fluid which have higher static shear stress, better stability, faster response time and better resistance to shorting . this better ER fluid have 6 kPa shearstress under 4 kV/mm.2. Research on adaptive damper systemReview the current ER damper and active vibration control technology , the conception of converting vibration energy to energy damping vibration is presented .The adaptive ER damper system has a rack and pinion mechanism which converts a linear motion of piston to a rotary motion. This rotary motion is amplified by gears and subsequently activates a generator to produce an electrical energy .The voltage is then amplified via the DC-DC amplifier module to drive ER damper. The Skyhook control regulation is realized by one-way clutch. According to the system we constructsimulate the mathematical model, and the same time verify the model and the simulation result by the way of experiment.3. Research on vehicle damping using adaptive damperUsing adaptive damper system in a 1/4 vehicle model, constructing mathematical model, the simulation is processed. The result demonstrates the effective of adaptive damper system. In all, the conception of damping vibration by the energy get from vibration system is fulfilled through Adaptive damper based on the ER fluid; Active vibration control is resolved by one-way clutch.
