The "1ar~e-volume" structure and universal adaptation of atrium in modembuildings has challenged smoke control technology adopted in traditional buildings, and thus precipitated the emergence of a new subject: "smoke management in atrium under fire" in the field of smoke control in building. However, the current study of this subject in our country is still at the elementary stage. What has been included in our active norm is still prescribed-based code, that is the method based on volume change times, which has fallen into disuse in development country and has been proved to be so simple and inaccurate as to lead to great mistake sometimes. From the 80s in last century, the new concept of "Fire/Life safety Performance-based System Design" has been put forward in developed country and begun innovating the old prescribed-based system. The new idea of 'Performance-Based System Design Code " has been advanced, which is the certain trend in "Fire/Life safety design" in the world. But it is a complex systems engineering. Thus, in order to develop a set of technological"Performance-based atrium smoke control ", a lot of research should be carried out based on the situation of our counUy.The focus of this article is to study how to change prescribe-based method into performance-based method in atrium smoke control, and at the same time tap software to help designer decision-making. At first, discussing how to establish performance-based code and guide, which aim is to form a whole concept of performance-based design; guide designer to achieve design, etc.Based on this , the author has put forward the concept of performance requirement, fire scenario and forecasting smoke interface, and then tapped out the software (PB-ASCDT) using high-language of Visual Basic6.O and Microsoft Access2000.At last, in order to prove practicality and illustrate using produce, characteristic of PB-ASCDT software, ChongQing Diwang mansion is taken as an engineering example.
