The mathematical model of optimal reactive power planning on rural power distribution network has been established in this paper. Based on three different load operation conditions ?lights normal and heavy, the proposed solution methodology decompose the problem of distribution reactive power planning into a investment planning problem and a running planning problem. The objective of investment planning model is energy loss reduction by taking into account the cost of capacitors; theæ¢ bjective of running planning model is energy loss reduction. Implementing genetic algorithm and optimal network loss ratio solve the problems. Solving investment planning problem decides capacity of maximal reactive compensation~ Solving running planning problem decides the switch capacitors. A program presented in this paper has been tested in 69 node system and yixing抯 two 10kV line. The results are fairly satisfactory.
