Development process of automobile and its parts is a complicated and systematic project. All kinds of unknown question will arise during the development of a new automobile parts,Puting into operation until the end of the product life cycle.It will bring a lot of risk for developping project team and enterprise. Face parts production enterprises increasingly fierce competition environment, and numerous models are put on the market. Each vehicle factory and spare parts supplier is easy to cause the quality problem because the development cycle is so short, and recall a large number of cars that have been sold, the replacement of potential hidden troubles.On the basis of analyzing the structure and function of the passive safety system, this paper puts forward the important significance of the project risk management in the development of the automotive passive safety system. From the concept of project management and risk management, the paper analyzes the process and application of it during the developpment of the automotive passive safety system. According to project experience and knowledge of the author in the passive safety system development, Through three risk management method, the risk ranking matrix, failure mode and effect analysis FMEA, milestone reports,We conducted risk management for XX automobile safety system development. Using the failure mode analysis of FMEA, analytic hierarchy process, and other theoretical methods, constantly identify risk, assess risk, monitor risk. Through these theories and methods we can not only strengthen project process control of new security system product development, and enhance the confidence of project team, and to identify the risk in the product development stage, so as to save a large number of cost during post test and batch production stage. The quality cost is the least of the product’s entire life cycle in the project development phase.Through the application of these risk management methods and tools, it will make the cost of the development of XX vehicle safety system to be effectively controlled, even lower than the original budget. In this paper, the importance of risk management in the development of automotive safety system is described with the aid of the theory and method.
