This paper paid an attention to the structure design of remote controlled weapon station (RCWS) and cascade compound control design of the position AC servo system. The design concerned the rapidity and no overshoot of the position rotation of the RCWS.Firstly, the design goal and overall technical scheme of RCWS were cleared. Referring to the technical specifications of the overseas RCWS, the technical indexes of the designed RCWS were determined. Secondly, the key parts, including the servo motor and the gear transmission system for elevation and azimuth, were selected and designed. The worm and worm wheel mechanism were chosen to achieve the mechanical self-locking. Meanwhile, the modular common weapon mount for the weapon system was established, and its 3D entity model was established with Solidworks software. The finite element model of the RCWS was established. Based on the modal analysis, the natural frequencies and the vibration modes of each order were obtained. The explicit dynamic analysis of the RCWS under firing state was conducted. On the basis of classical three close-loop position PID control of servo system, the cascade compound control strategy was proposed for the position servo system of the RCWS. Based on the ideas and on the basis of the current loop PI control, four kinds of control strategy were proposed, and the comparison of the computer simulation results of the four proposed control strategies were carried out. The suggestion of the control strategy selection was suppliedThe mechanical-electrical co-simulation of position Servo System of the RCWS was conducted, and the response simulation analyses of the elevation and azimuth positions within the scope of the aiming equipment field angle were performed. Results showed that the completed structure design and the proposed control strategy of the RCWS satisfied the requirements of performance parameters.
