Research On The Design Of Outdoor Environment Of New - Type Old - Age Community

In the background of retirement in Chinese style, the paper analyzed existing elderly community outdoor environment design, and then summed up the outdoor design experience for retirement living and concluded the concept of “new-type community of aging in place”. That is the major inhabitants are the elderly. But considering the social responsibility of elderly and filial piety of their children, the outdoor environment design took more consideration on overall needs of community residents. The paper combines theory sociology, psychology, environmental behavior study and landscape architecture related disciplines in the study of the “new-type community of aging in place”. It hoped that high-quality outdoor environment suitable for senior citizens in China could be developed, and new direction for the future development of Chinese-style retirement community could be illuminated.With the increasing of elderly population in China, our country also began to formulate a series of policies and regulations to protect the elderly people’s fundamental interests, and enabled the elderly to have a more healthy and convenient life in old age. And with the research related to the elderly got considerable development, all departments were making positive efforts and research. In terms of design, responding to the national call, the wave of barrier free design also gradually spread. With wide application of barriers free products, barrier free design of sign system were gradually developed. In designing convincing building for the elderly, continuous efforts were achieved by generations of designers. The conventional norms and methods were formed, but most of them concentrated in analysis of the elderly life pattern, suitability of building or community planning for the elderly. There is still a long road to go for the outdoor environmental design for the elderly. Research on needs of elderly and their children and grandchildren were very limited, lacking of more in-depth study with distinguish features. Norms and theory on related elements of landscape design had not been formed. Thus, elevated the importance of this paper, which mean to provide certain theoretical significance on future development of the “new-type community of aging in place”.In this paper, literature research, multi-disciplinary theories, case study analysis were applied. The existing domestic and elderly community outdoor environmental design were studied, and their advantages and disadvantages were summarized. And guidance of the “new-type community of aging in place” design were concluded.Based on the above background review, the papers started with demand analysis, reviewed related design theories, design principles and the design basis, and then studied and analyzed planning and designing of the outdoor environment for the “new-type community of aging in place”. At last the paper concluded the main conclusions and prospects for future research.
