Study On The Effect Of Rock, Glass And Additive On The Stability Of Asphalt Mixture

Comparing to conventional asphalt concrete, glassphalt concrete has a worseperformance on adhesion. In order to apply this new pavement material to practice in largescale, the stability of it must be promoted. Many scholars made research on the adhesionbetween asphalt and acidic aggregate, on promoting the mix’s resistance on moisturedamage by adding lime, but the research on the roughness and texture of glass cullet is few.What’s more, whether the effect of the improvement of conventional concrete still workson glassphalt concrete has to be proved.Aggregate, glass cullet and asphalt consist of99%of the mix on mass and volume. Tooptimize the stability of it, the study on adjusting their parameters is researched. Theconclusions are as follows:(1) Replacing the aggregate with glass cullet, a mass friction of10%with a4.75mmsieve diameter glass particle is a good choice.(2) In individual test of different aggregate (containing granite, basalt and limestone),the limestone has the highest Marshall Stability values, while the better performance onfreeze-thaw split belongs to the basalt.(3) Adding the lime in a way of replacing mineral powder still do a favor to glasshaltconcrete. Besides,1.5%replacement by mass is good for it. On the other side, beforemixing the asphalt and aggregate, mixing the lime and asphalt can’t promote theconventional test index significantly. But it really do a good favor to the mixture’s hightemperature performance.(4) Adulterating agent surface active agent like C12H25SO4Na can improve themixtures’ freeze-thaw split strength value and its ratio.In spite of the many shortage of glassphalt concrete, by many improvement likeadding lime and surface active agent, it’s a really new viable pavement material.
