With the increasingly severe traffic problems in the process of fast urbanization, many big cities try to solve this problem, but it is very difficult to solve it fundamentally. Rely on its advantages of large-capacity, fast speed, safety and punctuality, Rail transit, which has been placed in a leading position, has played a very huge role in solving traffic problem, guiding urban development and optimizing city space. As the fast development of the rail transit, the rail transit's impact on urban space has attracted more and more attention.In China there are many mountainous cities scattered widely, whose amount holds a third of the total city numbers. The rail transit in mountainous cities has been influenced by special topography, geological condition and territorial environment. Its impact on city space is quite different from that of plain city; the strategies to optimize city space with rail transit are also distinctively different.At present the study on mountainous city under the impact of rail transit is still in the initial stage. Therefore, this thesis aims to improve traffic effiency, save land resources, drive cities to form compact space layout to realize smart growth and sustainable development, and for the coordination of city space and sustainable development, this thesis tries to search the strategies to optimize the city space with rail transit in order to maximize the function of rail transit.After summarizing relevant theories and practical experiences of guiding city development and optimize city space with rail transit in home and abroad, this thesis put much emphasis on analyzing the impact of rail transit on urban land utilization, land value, population distribution and city space structure etc; to analyze relevant rail transit net factors against the features of mountainous city and put forward the solutions at the basis of urban land utilization from macro, meso and micro levels.The thesis is divided into five parts:The first part is a general introduction of the background. The first chapter mainly explains the research object, meanings, thinking and methods, and defines the research range, involved main concepts and research framework.The second part is the universal theory study which analyzes the successful cases and developed theories in home and abroad, summarize the impact of guiding city development and city space with rail transit, the impact on urban land utilization as well as the theory of guiding urban land development and optimizing city space with rail transit.The third part is the deeper theory study on mountainous city. Analyzing the mountainous cities from the aspects of space structure and traffic features etc, picking up the spatial features of mountainous city and rail transit factors related to optimizing mountainous city space, and put forward rail transit factors related to optimization of mountainous city, and the strategy of optimizing mountainous city with rail transit.The fourth part is the empirical study. At the basis of the universal theory study and research of mountainous features theory and strategy, this part studies the optimizing of main city zone of Chongqing with rail transit. Firstly this part introduces the present situation of Chongqing city from the aspect of urban space and traffic features, and then it analyzes the city spatial evolution of main city zone, previous optimization of rail transit, mutual influence of urban space and traffic. Combining with the optimizing strategy in the third part, detail methods and strategy to optimize the city space of main city zone with the rail transit, finally it proposes optimization methods from the layer of land use based on the built part of line 2.The fifth part is application study which put emphasis on the optimization of zones along line No.2 rail transit in Chongqing city from meso and micro point of view.Conclusion part summarizes the major research achievement and raises certain prospects on future studies.
