Urban Platform: Study Of The Horizontal Public Space Lifted Above Urban Ground

Urban Platform refers to a type of public space which is lifted above urban levels. Compare with streets and squares, Urban Platform is a totally new type of public space. Today, with the rapidly developed urbanization, urban public space construction plays an important role in our city. As a type of public space, urban platforms should be paid more attention.This first chapter concern on the concept of urban platform which is horizontal public Space lifted above urban levels.This second chapter is studying the detailed history of urban platform, classifies the way how platform is developed, especially concern on the effects of modern architecture on platforms.This third chapter elaborates the character of urban platform based on the theories of Environment and Behavior Science, Phenomenology and Urban Design.This forth chapter discusses how to build urban platforms in sense of urban contribution, and how to use urban platform in urban design.The study of urban platform is a part of series study of urban public space. I believe that public space has a wide field in research, we should not only develop the existing type, but also study the new types. Only in this way, we could do better toward our cities.
