Along With the object of Chinese higher education changing from elite to mass, the universities expand rapidly through various forms. For example, the enrollment rate grows from 3.7% in 1990 to 11% in 2000, by 2008 the number has reached 23.3%, and the quantity of registered students has broken 29 million now. Meanwhile campus is urbanized gradually, motor vehicles began coming into campus which make the life convenient and efficient but also undermine the original peace of the campus. It brings noise pollution, air pollution, mental pollution, and even threatens the safety of teachers and students. The conflict between people and vehicles is exacerbated, and the traffic problem has become increasingly severe.Taking HUST as study case, this paper investigates campus transportation system, discovers the current traffic problems in the campus and proposes optimized strategy. The research can enrich and improve the domestic-related theories, provide theoretical and practical reference about transport system for the university campus planning design and alterations. This paper first study the theory on community transport, the traffic concept under sustainable development and the external space theory; then take apart the transport system of HUST ring upon ring, investigate respectively from the campus physical space, dynamic traffic, static traffic, school traffic management and etc, analyze the root causes of problems; finally come up with the principle of campus traffic optimization, combine with relevant theory and the outstanding university cases at home and abroad, concludes the transport system optimized strategies of Hust.
