Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) plays theimportant role in the Aircraft Environment Surveillance System (AESS). Itcan help to reduce the risk of midair collisions between aircrafts.It iscrucial to the enhancement of flight safety.First of all, the paper exposited the research background of TCASand its development status.The regulations and operational guidance ofTCAS were proposed. The TCAS logical functions and systemcompositions were analyzed in detail.Maneuver strategy is a key to TCAS. The principle of maneuverstrategy for TCAS was introduced. Traffic advisory and resolutionadvisory was presented concretely in the conflict process. Mathematicalmodel was built. TCAS strategies under the different conditions of theairspace were analyzed in detail. In the vertical direction and thehorizontal direction,the algorithms were detailed derived. Finally thenumerical simulations to the algorithms confirmed the reliability andfeasibility for the strategies.Then, multi-targets maneuvers were presented on the basis of verticalavoidance strategy and horizontal avoidance strategy. By setting out thepossible maneuvering strategies, the optimal ones were chosen.Possible developments were proposed at the end of the paper.
