Tibet has got a rapid progress during the past few years since the practice of the Great Western Exploitation Strategy in 2001 and completion of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 2007. Experts pointed out it would cause regional culture extinction if this area continuously suffers the strike from the cultural globalization, just like many other cities in China and all over the world. Under this background, the study focuses on one thing: how can the Tibetan architecture meet the requirement from the traditional culture, the economic growth, the new building technology and the regional environment in the new era. This thesis is composed by 4 main parts. Strike: recording the society and economic situation changes that have taken places since the year 2001, pointing out that the traditional architectural style has come to the very crossroad; Anchor: discussing the essence of the regional culture, finding out that only the Tibetan Buddhism, the"soul"of the region, can bring the traditional culture to the next age, regardless whatever changes in the physical world. Reconstruction: through the recent architectural practice in Tibet, evaluating the different building styles and viewpoints from different people: the local Tibetan, emigrants and architects. Nirvana: some questions on that how can the"spirit"of region culture last forever, and some personal viewpoints given by the writer.
