The measurement of auto body panels'stiffness is gained more and more attention in modern industry. Stiffness is an important parameter to reflect auto body panels and other elastomers, which can directly affect the performance of auto body panels and the qualities and safety of vehicles. The performance of auto body panels can be judged by measuring its stiffness. The rigidity of stiffness tester can affect the accuracy of test results, so, study on load characteristics of stiffness tester is essential.First, the stiffness measurement principle of auto body panels and system components of stiffness tester is analyzed. The mechanical structure, designing parameters, operating principle and the existing differences in mechanical structure and applications of portable and fixed stiffness tester is researched. And then the simulation model about the load characteristic of stiffness tester is established.Second, the finite element software ANSYS is used to simulate the strength and rigidity of the portable and fixed stiffness tester's geometric model. According to exerting different loads, the displacements-loads curve of pressure head is got, which shows the discipline that changing the work loads affects the displacement of the press head.Finally, the rationality and feasibility of the elastic scope, initial point's selection and stiffness K evaluation are verified through the stiffness measurement of auto body panels by portable stiffness tester. And then the analysis of testing data identifies the proportion of the accuracy of stiffness tester in the testing accuracy, which provided theoretical basis for the data processing of stiffness measurement and the final determination of stiffness.
