The design of tall buildings not only needs to satisfy the requirements of structural safety and building functions, but also should achieve the reasonable structural system with the minimum material. The present design method of trial-verification-modification ways results in the acceptable design project that satisfies the regulations of the design codes, however, it may be an unoptimal design and the design is time-consuming. Structural optimization design is an important development of the structural design, whose inherent aim is not only to pursue the minimum cost or material volume, but also the rational distribution of the resources. The research on structural optimization had a long history, and there were a lot of successful applications in many fields and some available commercial FEM software with optimization modules. However, there has been few research and application of the structural optimization for building Structures. In general, the optimization problem for building structures is an complex discrete optimization one with multi-load, multi-variable, multi-constraint and multi-objective, and there exists a lot of uncertainties(loads, materials, analysis models, and etc.). Moreover, the structural system and form and the component type of buildings are quite complex and with numerical regulations of the design codes. These difficulties make it much challenging to establish a comprehensive and practical optimum algorithm.In recent years, the high-rise shear wall structure residential is a wide application, large number and investment, so the optimized design has the vital significance.The major contents are summarized as follows:1.We analyzed some a tall building's shear wall structure, adopting our country's current structure calculation software SATWE to model and analysis, studying the structure's dynamic characters, deformation, internal force characters and structure measures to optimize the structure. And we also contrasted the optimized structure's performance and efficiency to the original one's.2. Optimize the thickness of shear wall structure by using ANSYS considering model analysis, seismic accelerates response spectrum analysis. The target function is the quantity of concrete, the condition is the maximum interbedded drift angle.3. Based on the above optimum analysis above, the optimum thickness of the shear wall according to different structural performance requirements is further studied. According to different seismic fortification intensity, the optimized thickness of shear walls is obtained by the sub-problem algorithm.
