Chinese gardening artists attach great importance to the role of heaping rockery in classical garden, use elevation relationship to create ups and downs of the scene in limited space, and enrich the Chinese garden's spiritual meaning. Since building in Ming Dynasty, Zhan-Yuan has been famous with heaping rockery.This article analyses the method of heaping rockery of Chinese classical garden, Zhan-Yuan as an example. Though analysis and researching on the method of heaping rockery of Zhan-Yuan, it finds the characteristics and charm of rockery, then deduces the classical law and deeply humanistic spirit of ancient heaping rockery. Furthermore, the article expounds some existing problems and deficiencies of heaping rockery in Zhan-Yuan, then analyses, summarizes and sums them. Combining with the classical law, they act as the guiding principle of the modern landscape architecture. It not only has very important practical significance to the development of contemporary heaping rockery, but also perfectly inherits and develops the method of heaping rockery in garden.
