Recently, a highly frequent DRI shipping accidents had raised close attention of various aspects. DRI is the raw materials of making high quality iron and steel, and the rapid development of China's steel industry which caused increased demands for DRI. However, China is not very rich in directed reduced iron sources and heavily reliant on imported DRI, which account for the increasing shipment of DRI. Consequently, the research and discussion of the safety of DRI shipment is of practical importance.The technical process, physical and chemical characteristic of DRI has been analyzed in a deep-going way in this thesis, and the conclusions of the dangers of DRI shipment were drew as followed:the effect of cargo heat, spontaneous combustion, inflammable and explosive gas was released when DRI reacted with water etc. On the basis of that, operate guidebook for suitable cargo classification, cargo declaration, holds preparation, loading and charging, shipping, precaution and control of fire accidents, controlling of hydrogen and other section of transportation was concluded respectively.The proper way of safe loading and isolation was summarized, and proposing the correct method of trimming of all forms of DRI in the accordance with IMSBC, which is useful complement to related part of the rules. In according to the theory of cargo hold ventilation and chemical dangers of DRI, the thesis presented that, the non-inert cargo should be mechanically ventilated, by the researching of effect of inert gas, inflammable gas and oxygen proportion, the conclusion that the cargo hold filled with inert gas could effectively avoid explosion was drew which provides the basis of preventing explosion for the ship. By the mechanism of firefighting, combined with the characteristic of DRI, the effective way of quenching fire is liquid nitrogen.The contents and conclusions of this thesis are guiding principles for shipment of DRI, and the safety of ship, cargo, staff and environment was ensured.
