Architectural Design Of Buildings Located In The Crossroads Of Urban Center

In the context of globalization, modern cities are in the trouble of ambiguous urban images. Buildings are difficult to identify, confusing in style and lack of spirit of place, which bring trouble into urban cognitivity. Buildings loacated in the crossroad of urban centers are significant hubs of urban space, responsible for conveying the urban image and shaping people's lives. The designs of these buildings are directly related to the city image and the spirit of urban public space. Therefore, it is necessary to study them separately and summarize the successful experience to guide practice.Focusing on the theme of buildings located in the crossroad of urban centers, this paper will introduce the studies on:First, historical research. Review on the development of buildings loacated in crossroads of Chinese and Western urban centers. Second, research on related theories. By considering variety of subjects and time span, related theoriess are collected as theoretical basis of the paper. Third, research on space constructure of crossroads of urban center. Analyze the factors of space constructure as well as the effection on the architectural design in the aspect of plane, elevation and three-dimensional constructure. And finally, analyze the relationship between architectural designs of crossroads of urban centers and outerspace integrally. Fourth, summarize Chinese and foreign successful cases and design types. By serious considering the span of the area, district type, building sizes and building types, successful cases have been chosen, which are analyzed by means of phenomenology theory. And then summarize four levels'design types from four aspects of the case study by using the typology theory. Specifically, summarize cultural and psychological types from the location and image of building, summarize spatial types from the spatial composition of building, and summarize social types from the pubicness of building. Fifth, pratical application. Put the summarized types into a realistic project, especially the cultural type. Sixth, summarize differences between Chinese and foreign cases and the development trend, for the purpose of helping and guiding the design work in the future.
