Research And Application Of New Textile Fabrics In Product Design

Textile with long history is necessary in everyday life and production. Since man-made fabrics invented in 1900s, it has been improved a lot in both Properties and output, and the application has also extended from clothes and home textiles to broader fields of industrial production. In terms of industrial design, development of technology promoted functions and appearances of textile fabrics, which are used in some products, got favorable comment. These all indicated the textiles fabrics are entering the field of product design.From aspect of design material, this thesis work out the properties of textile fabrics by researching on physical and sensation properties related to product design from comparison between plastic, metal, glass and fabrics by Hybrid Kansei Engineering.Combined with classification of textiles applications and product design, application of textile fabrics in product design was classified to be six categories: furniture, sports, transport, electric product, medical care, decoration. By look up in the recent product design awards, excellent typical products and traditional products of fabrics, collecting the excellent applications of fabrics in product design. After carefully comparative analysis, the conclusions of fabric products' characteristics are as follow:In terms of form, fabrics are always used as outer skin or protective casing, component connecting to human or changeable; fabrics are various, colors and patterns are plentiful; products are fashionable and change fast with rich textural quality and contradistinction.In terms of function, applications of fabrics can make products changeable and comfortable. It is light and can protect things. Also it can make things fashionable and valuable.In terms of production, elastic of fabrics are good at expressing of curved surface. Connection of material is always sewing and agglutination. Fabrics can be used to fit rapid manufacturing.Based on the conclusions of these properties, this thesis evaluated the fabrics applications from usability, experience economy, hand made economy and green design. It also analyzed the application prospect and problems might face in the future and provided some suggestions for applications of textile fabrics.
