Torpedo during water entry is a typical fluid-structure coupling problem. The design and analysis of aircraft torpedo or ship-borne torpedo need to take into account the factor of the load caused by water impact. The torpedo will endure very large force of hydrodynamics at the moment it enters water and the load of entry will cause damages to the structures and inner apparatus of torpedo. Such phenomena can't be neglected in design of torpedo. Therefore, it has a very important reference value to simulate and analysis of torpedo's impact at water entry.In this article, a review of the history and current status for torpedo into water is carried out at first. Secondly, relative theories and methods of structure's water entry are introduced in order to establish the general method and solution process of the dynamic problem for torpedo into water. Then the flat cylinder test model into water is simulated and structure into the water-related issues is discussed in MSC.Dytran.Based on above analysis, numerical simulation of the load for torpedo's impact force at water entry is carried out by using finite element program MSC.Dytran. A lot of calculations have been done on torpedo at different water entry speeds, different water entry angles, different head-type structures and different body mass. The influencing factors and corresponding curves of impact load and trajectory are obtained and the state of flow field is analyzed.Finally, a complex model of torpedo is established and dynamic response of the torpedo is analyzed. The weak part in design of torpedo is found, which makes reference for optimization of torpedo in the design stage.In this paper, the problem of torpedo's water entry is simulated and analyzed by means of finite element software. The numerical method and results will provide certain reference and practical value for the dynamic study of similar water entry problems.
