Expansion of power grid and existence of interconnected network and large scalenetwork have made the structure of power grid more and more complicated. Operations ofpower grid brought higher and higher requirements for the control of voltage. On onehand,percent of pass of voltage and safety of power grid have to be ensured, and on the otherhand,loss and maintenance cost of power grid have to be reduced to earn more economicbenefits.Such scattered and local control of voltage cannot meet the requirements ofdevelopment of power grid nowadays. Therefore, a coordinated voltage control system isnecessary for the safe and economic operations of the whole power system or in the wholearea. Fortunately,the fast development of computer technology and communicationtechnology has provided possibilities for that objective. The presentation of whole networkautomatic voltage control will inevitably appear.This article analyzed and compared researches on optimization of reactive at home andabroad. Based on those analyses and the development of SCADA system, the article putforward the general planning'Voltage and Reactive Power Optimizing Control System'. Byusing the'four remote control'function of SCADA system and the computer technology andcommunication technology, data got from remote measurement and remote communication toeach node of the whole grid will be gathered and on-line analyzed. On the basis of ensuringsafe running of power grid and equipments, carry out the voltage and reactive poweroptimizing control in the whole power grid. However, voltage at each node must be up tograde. In that way, loaded pressure regulation equipments and reactive power compensationequipments of each station within the power grid will be monitored, controlled and managedcollectively so as to realize the voltage and reactive power optimizing control of the wholegrid.The on-site applications have demonstrated that the automatic voltage control system canmake the automation system of management provide better service for the power system,reduce the labor intensity on personnel scheduling of operator on duty. Because theautomatic voltage control system can provide advanced methods for safe and stable runningand optimized control of modern power grid, it will have obvious economic benefits and greatmarket prospect.
