The reliability assessment of the structure is to evaluate the ability of the structure as well as to finish its prearranged function within the schedule time and under the rated condition. The reliability assessment of the structure includes two parts which are the assessment of safety and the assessment of the using in common.This thesis is mainly about the safety evaluation of masonry structure.We mostly take the traditional experienced methods in the safety evaluation of structure at present, but it occurs uncertainly because that the human factors often play a decisive role, and then the results of the evaluation always depends on the experts'personal preference and experiences. In this thesis, the reliability assessment of existing masonry structures is studied by structural reliability, analytic hierarchy process, extenics method etc.according to the requirement of project. And it changes the qualitative method into quantitative rating method, and checks the validity according to the examples.The thesis includes 6 chapters. The main contents in brief are followingChapter 1 shows the purpose and significance of the research works, it also shows the overview and analysis about the current research status. It gives the analysis and summary of the existent problems in the evaluation of masonry structure. And it determines the content and the objectives of the thesis.Chapter 2 shows the extenics theory for the safety evaluation of masonry structure, it introduces the conception of matrix,the extenics of basic element, the extensibility of matter element, extension set, independent function, which are related to the extenics, and it analyzes the characters and applicability of the independent function . We get the advantages of the independent function when it's compared with characteristic function.Chapter 3 presents the fundamental principles and the performing steps of the analytic hierarchy process that determines the vector of factors and sets up the model of the graded hierarchical structure, the judging matrix of evaluation indexes of the same class is constructed with Five Scale Method after consulting one hundred experts, reasonable weight vectors of factors that influence the safety of masonry structures are gained with improved analytic hierarchy process.Chapter 4 a variety of factors, which influence the safety of masonry structures, are analyzed and the matter element models suited to masonry structure safety assessment are posed, and establishes the independent function of each sub-factor, it also shows the working process.Chapter 5 takes the evaluation of safety for the educational building of masonry structure in Zhuanghe as an example.It shows the specific applications to make the conclusions of the thesis combined with the project example. We have proved the validity and feasibility of the method of this thesis through comparing the conclusion of the evaluation in this thesis to that of existing method. Chapter 6 summarizes the thesis and puts forward the importance of further research.
