Nowadays, residential become less and there's no more room for people to live, with the crowding people in our cities, which makes us to build more tall building even super tall building to adapt. It's necessary to do some researches on the efficiency of steel frame-bracing system for such type of buildings.Based on the working of structural form selection for a super high-rise building in Kunming, this paper has studied the effect on the lateral stiffness of steel frame-bracing system with different layout of braces. On the basis of the building's special characters,14 structural models in total are established,7 for big brace project and 7 for small brace project,respectively. With using ETABS to analyse and test all models, this paper designs all these beam and column sections settled for the Codes. In the event that main structure components keep the same, braces sections must be optimized design. The next step is to begin elastic analysis for each models under minor earthquake by ETABS. On comprehensive consideration from three aspects of effect on using function, economy and structural performance, this paper respectively carries out the excellent models in the seven small brace projects and the seven big brace projects by longitudinal analysis; while by transversely analysing the projects with two kind of layout of braces, it estimates their efficiency. There comes to the end that based on the quantitative analysis between the small and big brace models, this article digs out, to the certain or resemble type of builing, those project armed with big braces make the whole structure system more efficient than the ones with small brace. These results supply more useful advise for structure designers and owners during the work of structural form selection.Finally, it gives the summary of the research of this task. On the basis of the summary, this paper indicates the existing short comings of the study, and also gives several suggestions on research future.
