| Architecture is a space of sequence, which forms the the plemtiful cities, buildings, landscape patterns under the control of sequence. Therefore, space is the studying core by architects. The spatial concept of Chinese traditional society and the western modern architectural theory have laid a theoretical foundation for space research. Combing a sort of Chinese traditional philosophies of space, learning from the western modern urban planning, architectural design theory and method, basing on tradition and innovation, which are contemporary Chinese architects' responsibilities. Lingyin scenic spot in Hangzhou has a long history, deeply rooted in the rich historical heritage, spatial diversity, integrated by the traditional space and the modern space, which is a typical study.The paper attempted to use the figures analysis as the main method, profoundly analyzed the spatial elements, spatial form and spatial growth of Hangzhou Lingyin scenic spot, which provided the reference study sample for the spatial structure and shape in theory, and also provided a reference for the protection of historical scenic spots and modern urban planning in practice.The paper introduced the research background, aims, objects, methods and other related content of spatial analysis to be the theoretical preparation. Then it elaborated the history and space entities of Lingyin scenic spot in Hangzhou, and established the basic framework of spatial analysis, also refined the four space elements of environment, core, axis and group. The paper analyzed deeply from two angles of the spatial form and spatial growth. The spatial form studied the static combination of space and the spatial growth studied the dynamic evolution line of the main elements. To summarize the four elements of the spatial characteristics. Finally, based on the theoretical results of spatial analysis, combined with modern urban design, the paper proposed the design strategies of the landscape space, core space, axis space and group space.
