This paper mainly discusses the connection of the Tang Dynasty and Japan in diet, especially after the Buddhism spread to Japan so that we can learn the karma between the Tang Dynasty and Japan.The exploration of this paper includes three parts: the first is the influence of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty and then to the Japanese diet; the second is the Tang Dynasty monk Jianzhen went to Japan and his influence in Japan; the third is the tea culture of Tang Dynasty temple promoted the formation and development of the Japanese tea ceremony.The Tang Dynasty Buddhist got unprecedented development, and had impact on the culture,art and social life, so as to diet in Tang Dynasty.Buddhism get Li Tang Dynasty support, thus the Buddhist diet also got the official advocate and spread in the Tang Dynasty.Buddhist east to Japan at the same time, the regulations and senior monks also went to Japan in the Tang Dynasty, influenced Japan’s diet culture. The impact includes the following aspects: first is pasta was introduced into Japan, while Japan was no wheat flour to make pasta,the second is the pursuit of light vegetarian, which is because the monks and nobles influenced the Japanese diet,the third is Japan inheritedthe pursuit of the food sense and beauty of the Tang Dynasty,which has been the biggest characteristic in the Japanese diet.Japan has kept the food culture from the Tang Dynasty to now,so the characteristics of the temple food makes today’s Japanese diet with Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty.Monk Jianzhen went to Japan is a big event of the spread of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, so as to the Japanese diet development. Jianzhen brought a lot of spices, food, snacks, and production techniques to Japan,including thetechniques of making tofu, so that Jianzhen has been regarded as the father of tofu in Japan. On the other hand,Jianzhen left many "Chinese prescription" in Japan, promoted the spread of traditional Chinese medicine in Japan, and put many ideasin Japan’s diet regimen.Tea and Buddhism was introduced into Japan in the Tang Dynasty, prompted the formation of the Japanese tea ceremony.Tang monk Huaihai made theBaizhang Monastic Rules prompted the monks to plow by themselves. This good habit was so popular among the Buddhists that they planted tea for themselves. And then tea culture became a mainstream culture in the Tang Dynasty and quickly spread to Japan, so Japan’s monks and nobles regarded tea drink as luxury and elegant at that time. Some years later, "zen tea Unified" became a popular philosophy in Japanese tea ceremony. This philosophy is also been accepted in modern society, so Japanese tea ceremony is often accompanied by the comprehension of Buddhist.
