Madagascar has always been known for its biodiversity and ecosystems. The big island, due to its isolation from the rest of the world, has tremendous biodiversity and high rates of endemic species: more than 200,000 known species found on Madagascar, and about 150,000 exist nowhere else. Unique to the island are some 70 kinds of lemurs, 223 out of 226 known species of frogs, 33 species of tenrecs, miniature hedgehog-like animals...However, it is one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet. More than 80% of the forests are gone– half of them since the late 1950s– along with a large number of charismatic species. Recently the environmental crisis has begun to be felt with the loss of a big amount of forests and many varieties of fauna and flora which can lead to an extinction of endangered and unique species.Through what I have acquired from PR and Communications, I would like to contribute in resolving this situation by proposing some suggestions of solutions. Through this work, we will see the necessity of using PR to protect the environment. This research is trying to suggest some PR strategies to protect the environment in Madagascar, to understand how to use PR with the current problems of environment, and to deduce what kind of problems and barriers could be faced and could block the positive results of the work.
