the Exploitation of mineral resources promotes local economic development, but at the same time it also damages the local environment, the result is damaging the ecosystem structure and function and severe degradation of ecosystems. Use some principles and methods of restoration ecology to investige, analys and evaluate current situation of ecological restoration and some problems existing in the process of ecological restoration of mining areas. It is of great significance for Ecological restoration,re-use of land resources and sustainable development of mining areas.This research studied on ecological restoration of mining wasteland of Shuozhou Pingshuo Mining area in Shanxi Province more than 20 years, it provided a reference experience for the development of mining area. The research discussed the situation of ecological restoration of mining wasteland in Pingshuo Mining area, including dump, subsidence of mined areas, the mining pit and tailings recovery conditions.It also evaluated the state of ecological restoration of mining wasteland, including the evaluate of landscape ecological , land suitability evaluation.At last it proposed some countermeasures and operational methods for ecological restoration of mining wasteland.Through the research, analysis and evaluation on ecological restoration of Pingshuo Mining wasteland, conclusions of this study are as follows:(1) From the landscape type level and landscape level analysis landscape characteristics of Pingshuo mining area, the results show that: At the landscape type level, from 1986 to 2009, the number of landscape patches (NP) increased,plaque density (PD) increased year by year, landscape diversity index increased and the complexity of patch shape became simple; At the landscape level, from 1986 to 2009, the landscape patch types was balanced distribution of trend, land use type became more, the degree of patch type fragmentation was high, diversity increased and ecosystem stability reduced. (2) Based on 2009 IKNOS Pingshuo mining remote sensing image, assessing the land suitabilit of mining wasteland in Pingshuo mining area(mainly outside the dump) which has reclaimed, in five dumps the land suitable for agriculture (Typeâ… ) and suitable for afforestation and grass (Typeâ…¡) have each half of the area, 1-level land which is the highest level for agriculture and the 6-level which is the lowest level for grass and afforretation valued smaller proportion, 2,3-level land suitable for agriculture and 4, 5-level land suitable for grass and afforestation valued a larger proportion.it showed that the land in this mining area which is not appropriate for land reclamation was relatively small, the results were clear.(3) Though the benefit analysis and evaluation of rebuilt ecosystem of Pingshuo mining area, integrated calculating and analyzing of economic, ecological, social and cultural and recreational benefits, Pingshuo mine ecological restoration of mining wastelands not only improved the ecological environmen,but also brought considerable economic benefits.
