Research On The Impact On Environment Of Economic Growth

With the rapid economic growth since reform and openness in China, coordinating the relationship between the economy and environment becomes the key issue in current society. Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos Region also faces the environmental problems, so it is necessary for us to study the impact of economic growth to environment and solve the problems of the economy and environment.First of all, the author summarizes the research on development of economy and environment, expatiates basic theories of economy and environmental pollution. Then by the GDP per capita and emissions of major pollutants statistical data in 1996-2008 of Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos Region, the paper analyses the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution and makes the empirical test. Following, the paper researches the influence factor on environmental pollution. Finally, based on the above result, the paper put forwards some policy suggestions over the continuous development of economy and environment. There are three main parts in this paper as follows:(1)Status quo analysis on the economic growth and environment.(2)Empirical research on the curve relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution.(3)Probe into the influence factors on environmental pollution and put forwards some policy suggestions over the continuous development of economy and environment.The paper comes to the following conclusions:(1) In 1996-2008 year, Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos Region's overall environmental quality situation is not optimistic. Since 2002, it has a rapid deterioration.(2)Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos Region's environmental Kuznets curve is not consistent with the typical characteristics of EKC. The industrial waste gas shows non-EKC characteristics while the sulfur dioxide, industrial dust and solid wastes show the characteristics of cubic curves.(3)The scale of economy, industry structure, environmental policy and investment as well as science and technology would impact the environment.
