To solve the packer's problems such as the packer is incompletely sealed and rubber canister is easy to strike down, this article researched the packer's structure and operational principle. Analyzed the basic structures, types and functions of all kinds of peckers, and the improving methods are presented.Analyzed the strength situation of packer's rubber canister, studied the formula of normal packer and anti-convex packer's setting forces, and under a specify working pressures, the contact stress's formula of rubber canister. Then computed the normal and new packer's setting forces and contact stress. By the result, the packers with anti-convex have better performance.Improved the potted component's dimensions and structures, designed a spacer ring with anti-convex, then set up the 3D model of the new packer.Use the Mooney-Rivlin as the rubber's hyper elasticity model, the finite element analysis has been used to the packer's setting process. The computational method of rubber's material parameter is researched, and used the finite sliding contact model to define the contact between the rubber canister and the other steel parts. According to the results of finite element analysis, the conclusion that the design of new packer is successful could be obtained. At last, the experiment of new packer was made, and the result proves that the new packer has better performance.
