Study On Traceability For Cabbage Safety

In this paper, traceability for the safety of cabbage was studied based on relevant standards in China. According to GB/T 18407.1-2001 "environment requirement for pollution-free vegetable production" and 9 other standards, the safety of environment for cabbage production was assessed. In accordance with GB/T 20014.5-2005 "Good Agricultural Practice Certification PartⅤ:Fruits and vegetables control points and compliance criteria" and "EUREPGAP Fruits and vegetables control points and compliance standards", the safety of cabbage products was studied. By means of 5 standards such as GB/T 16986-2003 "EAN·UCC system application identifier" and cabbage production practice, a coding system for cabbage safety was set up. Based on NY 5008-2008 "pollution-free food:Brassica vegetables" and 2 other criterias, an index system of risk assessment for cabbage safety was provided using a layer statistical method. According to tracing requirements for cabbage safety, a traceability framework was established. The major findings are as follows:(1) There are totally 22 factors affecting the safety of cabbage, i.e.8 factors from soil (pH, arsenic, mercury, chromium, lead, cadmium, HCH, DDT),10 from irrigation water (pH, lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, fluoride, cyanide, chromium VI, petroleum, chloride); 4 from atmosphere (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, total suspended solids, fluoride). Environment for cabbage production was evaluated by single or/and integrated pollution index methods.(2) 5 critical control points for cabbage safety were gained:cabbage variety, fertilizer use, plant protection, harvesting, and post-harvest processing. "Hazard analysis form for cabbage safety during production" was designed, recordings of traceability management for seed quality, recordings of traceability management for fertilizer quality,recordings of traceability management for pesticide quality, recordings of traceabitity management during harvesting, recordings of traceability management during processing, These above recordings meet requirements of safety control for cabbage production.(3) A coding system for cabbage safety was designed. This coding system implements the code by five aspects:i.e. production sites, products, harvesting, processing, and traceability management, to meet requirements of traceability for cabbage safety.(4) An index system of risk evaluation for cabbage safety was established, which provides a scientific statistical method for assessment and initial alert of cabbage safety.(5) A traceability framework of cabbage safety was preliminarily set up, electronic records and traceability coding of cabbage safety management were designed with a production process as the main line and different production steps as the targets, to ensure cabbage safe and traceable.
