The use of drills and milling cutter is becoming more and more widespread in engine manufacturing. We analyze the structures of twist drill, straight fluted drill and U-drill. Some comparison and evaluation on their performance are done. And summarized the primary factors influencing the machining quality, efficiency and cost. It is necessary to adjust the production process for these primary factors to achieve a maximum effect. The finite element model of the disk milling cutter was analyzed by the finite element program ANSYS and the results of four specimens as compared with the finite-element analysis for the verification for the model. As a result, the stress and deformation distribution map was obtained., which provide useful information and essential data for the design of disk milling cutter. The effects of chemical composition, microstructure and stress on the body of disk milling cutter are discussed. It has been confirmed that FEA (Finite Element Analysis) can be used as a tool design testing method.
