Magnetic abrasive finishing technology is a kind of machining that makes the parts to be machined in the non-uniform magnetic field region. At present, it is difficult for the fixture of some parts by traditional processing method due to the size constraints. In this paper, a way to achieve rapid processing of small parts using rotate magnetic field is introduced. In the process of magnetic abrasive finishing using a circling magnetic pole system, there are no needs to clamp small workpieces for the parts and free abrasive particle are moving in the following of the rotating magnetic field. Because of the differences of magnetic permeability and resistance between the small parts and the free abrasive particle, they have different movement under the rotating magnetic which is called relative motion. There are a lot of researches about the magnetic abrasive finishing over the abroad, but the study of magnetic finishing technology by rotating magnetic field is less than the former. Therefore, this paper is studied on the following aspects:1. As the size limit of small micro-workpiece, the traditional surface finishing methods can not be took on them. Based on the mechanism of magnetic abrasive, a new surface finishing methods was introduced in the paper. The magnetic abrasive and the micro-workpiece were mixed in the processing area, and then a circling magnetic pole system was added in order to achieve the surface finishing of small workpiece.2. The basic knowledge of common magnetic abrasive and preparation methods were introduced and the preparation of magnetic abrasive bonding was used in the experiment. The test experiments were designed to verify the performance of abrasive grinding according to the different ratio of iron and SiC, the size of magnetic particle and the different magnetic properties of abrasive grinding.3. The orthogonal experiment method was used to analyze the machining performance of the micro-workpiece magnetic abrasive finishing using a circling magnetic pole. The experiments were made to factors on the surface of small micro-workpiece. The roughness of the surface of work piece was 0.186μm.4. Mathematical model of abrasive polishing pressure and grinding capacity were established, and also the MATLAB software was used to simulate and optimize the factors in the process of magnetic abrasive finishing using a circling magnetic pole system.
