The continuous casting, which appeared in 1950s, is a kind of technology directly pouring molten steel into shape. Compared with the traditional way, continuous casting has much more advantages in several aspects such as more metal yield, higher quality of casting blank and less energy consuming. Therefore, nowadays, continuous casting has been widely used in the iron and steel industry as the most rapidly-developed, well-regard and successful technology in steel metallurgy field.Currently, most large slab continuous casting machines use the welded structural supporting frame whose side shape looks like a large banana, commonly called the Banana-set. The Banana set, which has large deadweight of many tons, suffers complex load including fan-shaped segment weight, slab weight, withdrawal resistance, thermal force and so on during operating. Considering the narrow space, it is difficult to find the opportunity to replacing the Banana-set. Thus, for making sure the high speed and high operating rates of the continuous casting, there are quite strict requirements for strength and rigidity of Banana-set during the casting.There is plenty of research about this subject at home and abroad, but after reading, I find that many researchers made too much predigestion in the model of the Banana-set, also, many dated expressions were used in computing the withdrawal resistance, which will obviously affect the accuracy of the results. In this paper, the finite element technology of three-dimensional nonlinear contact is used to set up the three-dimensional model of the Banana-set of MeiShan Steel 2# continuous casting machine accurately, so as to make sure the accuracy of the model in terms of structure. Also, the distribution of complex load, especially the withdrawal resistance, has been deduced in theory and computed reasonably in this paper, so credible load dates for the finite element solution can be provided. Meanwhile, both the connection between connecting bearings and fan-shaped board and the relation of the connection between supporting axle and fan-shaped board are considered as flexibility surface-flexibility surface connecting type. The restriction between supporting axle and foundation is transformed to a more logical way to make the connecting stress and restriction consistent with the real working conditions. At last, accurate numerical simulation about the Banana-set model and the complex load is made through the application of large finite element software to imitate stress distribution and deformation distribution of the whole model. Then, by analyze the results minutely, we can test the intensity and the rigidity of the Banana-set and get the primary cognition about the complex behavior so as to get credible measure to improve the complex deformation of the Banana-set.
