The thermal safety of emulsion explosive is closely related to the safety in its production, storage, transportation and use. In the process of industrial production, the metal ion will go into emulsion explosive, usually iron ion is more. In this paper, by simulating the production environment of emulsion explosive, usual metal materials of the production equipment are used in the corrosion experiments, the corrosion rate is tested. The emulsion explosive matrix with iron ion is manufactured, which take into account the results of corrosion experiments. The effect of iron ion on thermal safety of emulsion explosive is studied through the iron-plate experiments and thermal analysis experiments.The main results can be stated as follows:(1) Gray cast iron HT150, austenitic stainless steel 201 and austenitic stainless steel 304, the first corrosion rate of three metal sample in the corrosion solution is bigger, then the latter corrosion rate tends to be smooth. As a result of the (b) solution contains NaCl, the activation of hydronium chloride lead to that corrosion rate of metal samples is faster. The corrosion rate of the sample in all corrosion solution is: HT150> 201> 304, therefore the order of the good corrosion resistance is 304,201 and HT150.(2) The combustion flame of emulsion explosive matrix is closed to the half elliptical shape, and the combustion flame of the emulsion explosive matrix with iron ion is almost conical. So the combustion of the emulsion explosive matrix with iron ion is more fully, also have greater pressure.(3) The thermal decomposition characteristics of the emulsion explosive matrix, the emulsion explosive matrix with iron ion and pure AN with iron ion are tested by TG-DSC test,and the activation energy, preexponential factor and reaction mechanism of function decomposition are calculated. The activation energy of emulsion explosive matrix is 102.14 kJ ? mol-1, and the activation energy of emulsion explosive matrix with iron ion (0.05%) is 101.39 kJ ? mol-1. In addition, iron ion hastens the thermal decomposition of pure AN.(4) Iron ion can make the reaction of emulsion matrix more easily by temperature,and it has a catalysis for the thermal decomposition. In the production process of emulsion explosive, in particular the debugging and reproduction after shutdown of the emulsion explosive production device, should strictly control the iron ion going into emulsion explosive, so as to enhance the nature security in the production of emulsion explosive.
