A high-grade CNC machine tool is a kind of CNC machine tool which can meet the requirements such as high-speed and high-precision machining, as well as multi-channel and multi-axis control. A high-speed, high reliability bus is needed to realize the communication among CNC control unit and each servo unit, in order to realize the excellent performance of a high-grade CNC machine tool. In this thesis, the IEEE 1394 bus is applied in a servo control system for CNC machine tool, according to the demands of developing a high-grade CNC machine tool. An IEEE 1394 protocol based 1394 front-end module is designed and used as a communication interface between a servo unit of CNC machine tool and the 1394 bus.The 1394 front-end module use DSP TMS320F2812 as the core controller. This module can communicate with 1394 bus through the 1394 chip TSB43AA82, and can exchange data with motion controller through dual-port RAM chip CY7C026A. Therefore, multiple servo units in a CNC system can communicate with the host computer of the system via their own 1394 front-end module.In this thesis, the hierarchical structure of the IEEE 1394 protocol is summarized; the hard-ware design and the on-board drive program design of the 1394 front-end module are given in detail; then, a series of tests on 1394 front-end module function are undertaken; finally, the system integration test is performed, and the 1394 communication among the host computer of the CNC system and multiple servo units is realized successfully. The experiments proved that the communication system is capable of transferring data with high reliability, and that the system's characteristic on real-time performance can meet current application demand. The communication system can perform well.
