You can conveniently print your favorite pictures on the cotton fabrics just as you like and exhibit your individuality with thermal transfer paper, so thermal transfer paper is popular with all people. At present, the thermal transfer paper on home market is mostly imported and has a very high price, so it is difficult to gain ground. So, it is an urgent affair under this situation to develop this kind of specialty paper in our country. This paper mainly used four steps which are base paper, pre-coated and transfer layer to produce the thermal transfer paper, and discuss the different factor effect on the performance of the paper as well.In this study, first we analyzed four different thermal transfer papers'property of the market, included the glossiness, roughness, brightness, opacityness of the transfer layer, and analyzed the fiber of the base paper. From the experiments we can know that, the four transfer paper all included base paper, release layer and transfer layer, and have good transfer impact. The fiber of the base paper consist of conifer and broadleaf, and the paper have good tensile strength, endure high temperature, the transfer film have good springiness.This experiment through the different proportion of the conifer and broadleaf, measure the physics of the paper to find the best proportioning. Through analysis the physics performance of the paper, the weight of the conifer to broadleaf is preferably 7:3, which have the best intension and ensure high temperature performance. And the microscope picture of the fiber is closed to the finished product.Then begin to pre-coating onto the based paper, and discussd how the variety and the weight of the pigment, stickiness and water-resistant agent influence the properties of the pre-coated paper. The formulation is determined as follows: coating weight is 20g/m2, the weight of the conifer to broadleaf is preferably 7:3, the weight of the stickiness is 20 parts, PVA to SBR is 7:3, and the resist water anent is one parts. The weight, temperature and releasing results of the silicone releasing agent of the releasing layer were mainly talked about in this paper, the results show that the coating formulation silicone releasing agent weight of 3.4 g/m2 and the dryness temperature 120°C were the best.For the transfer layer, this paper discussed the variety and the weight of the pigment, stickiness, coating weight and fixing agent, the transfer temperature and transfer time effect on the properties of transfer layer. Then designed the coating formulation, polyethylene to polyester is 7:3, the dosage of the stickiness is 20 parts, coating weight is 25g/m2, the dosage of fixing anent is 0.6 parts, the temperature of transfer the picture is 180°C.The print color density of homemade laboratory thermal transfer paper is better than the marketable, furthermore, after transfer printing, the image's light fastness is better than the marketable, but the transfer rate is lower than the marketable.
