Thermal transfer printing technology has the advantages of simple process, good printingeffect, persistent patterns and long service life which make it more widely used in itsapplication area. More and more products have been printed in thermal transfer printingtechnology in daily life. There are many factors influence thermal transfer printing productquality, such as thermal transfer head, transfer ink, substrates, thermal transfer paper and otherfactors related to printing quality. That is dot coverage, ink penetration depth, printingpressure, transfer temperature, transfer time and so on.The main content of this article includes thermal transfer printing dot coverage, heattransfer printing in the ink transfer and penetration effect and thermodynamic properties ofsubstrates and thermal transfer paper. First, based on the study of dot coverage in thermaltransfer printing and analysis of two reflection models, obtain the equation that is suitable tocalculate the dot coverage for thermal transfer printing.The second, this paper mainly studies the relationship between ink penetration depth andprinting parameters such as printing pressure, printing time, porosity and permeability ratio,the effect of transfer temperature on thermal transfer printing ink penetration depth, and therelationship between ink penetration and paper compressibility. Because research on inktransfer and theoretical of penetration plays an important role in improving the quality ofthermal transfer printing, this paper based on the theory of classic ink penetration model, anovel ink penetration model was proposed by adding the porosity and permeability ratio toprovide a more effective way to study ink penetration depth. Through the model, we caneliminate the problem that the paper capillary radius is not easy to measure. This paper mainlythrough the temperature and ink viscosity relationship, ink viscosity and ink penetrationrelationship, establish and study the temperature and ink penetration mathematical model.Then analyzes the thermal transfer printing with the temperature reduce, ink penetration depthchange trend and amplitude. The relationship between printing parameter and ink penetrationdepth can be calculated which may play an important role to guide the actual operation toimprove the quality of thermal transfer printing.The last, this article research the thermodynamic performance of substrate in thermaltransfer printing, the creep curve of the substrate in high temperature and analyze the thermaltransfer printing quality influenced by transfer temperature, transfer time and printingpressure which provides a theoretical basis for actual printing operation.
