Perspective On Evolution And Blend Of Chair Under Cross-culture Background

Furniture is one of the most important information carriers of human culture, of which chair is the most important component. China and West, represented by Western Europe, have created the chair culture with various characteristics respectively due to different geographical locations, national characteristics, as well as cultural backgrounds.The level of science and technology development not only indicates the characteristics of national culture but also reflects the process of human civilization. Similarly, the shape change and development of chair and countries' various historical & cultural backgrounds and other related factors are complementary to each other, interacted and promoted each other. Under the trend of global economy integration and the international situation of cultural diversity, depending on the exchanges and the collision of Chinese and Western cultures, the cultures between Chinese and Western furniture will intercommunicate and learn from each other inevitably. Under the circumstances of the collision of Chinese and Western culture, we should pay attention to three aspects in studying: the first is western traditional culture, the second is our traditional culture, and the third is modern social life. It is necessary to understand the Chinese and Western cultural characteristics and the impact of different cultures on the chair design, with selecting the essence and discarding the dross, so as to adapt to the development of contemporary design.The main research contents in this paper, starting with the history of chair development, is to analyze and study carefully the main features and the formation cause for various styles of chairs, as well as the trace of chair evolution process in all ages, and to summarize the context of historical development of a chair from studying. The main basic of modern chair design is depended on the mastery of culture development context of Sino-foreign chair design. And using the comparative and analysis method to analyze the different development routes of Sino-foreign chairs: to analyze the differences existing during its development process and their reasons; to analyze the effect of all national fusion and communication on chair during its development process and the difference of chair during communication and fusion, and to search the effect of different cultures, materials, styles, structure features and workmanship technologies on chair. Finally, the methods and routes of chair design in contemporary china are presented by making the past serve the present and foreign things serve China.
