On The Value, The Problem And The Essence Of Eco-centrism

The survival and the development are the eternal subject which the human society faces, it is serious day by day that the process of industrialization causes robbing to the natural resources and environmental pollution, destroyed the ecological balance enormously, therefore make human existence fall into a deep crisis. The emergence of the ecological crisis not simply indicates nature itself has presented the state, more importantly, show that the relationship between man and nature have resulted in a serious crisis. How to solve this problem, humanity is making all sorts of effort. Besides utilizing means such as law, economy, science and technology etc., from a philosophical perspective to examine and reflect on the relationship between man and nature has a unique role and significance.This article takes the study of eco-centrism which taking whole theory and organic theory as philosophical foundation as the breakthrough point , through combing the theory origin and core ideas of eco-centrism, the paper reflects the value and the problem implicated and criticizes the unrealistic and superficial property of eco-centrism, then concludes that eco-centrism can not exceed the limit crated by itself, namely as whenever thinking and dealing with the relationship between human and nature, human being always and just can depend on the view-field of human themselves. The limit includes s three point: (1) The essence of eco-centrism is still for the surviving and the developing of human being and the standpoint of human beings can not be transcended naturally. (2)The solution for environmental issues still relies on human beings and pining the hope on raising status of other agents beside human to solve the problems could not work. (3) Dealing with interpersonal relationship between people and the relationship between people and society well is the precondition for solving the ecological crisis fundamentally. Anyway, the thought of eco-centrism shows the effort that human being search for the route to go out the plight caused by the ecological crisis. Eco-centrism emphasizes the co-existence and inter-action relationship between human being and nature as well as life and its environment, and build its thoughts basing on treating our world as organic whole. Although eco-centrism cannot fundamentally solve the ecological crisis, it's a good start, a positive attitude to deal with the relation between human beings and nature well, which has a profound practical significance for us to face and solve the environmental problems of today's China.
